Wonderful Victorian wicker photographers chair made by Heywood Brothers and Wakefield Company. It is shown on page 57 in the reprint of their 1898 catalog quot;Classic Wicker Furniture quot; with introduction by Richard Saunders and referred to as quot;Fancy Reception Chair. quot; It is also shown on page 146 of quot;Official 1984 Price Guide to Wicker quot; by Richard Saunders. If you look at your old pre 1900 photographs of your great grandparents and uncles you will find many of them were taken using this chair as a prop. Two such photos, taken from quot;Collector's Guide to American Wicker Furniture quot; by Richard Saunders, are shown here. The chair features spider web caning, curly cues, bird cages, stick and ball, and machine caned seat. The seat and web caning have been redone at some point. The back is a bit loose and would not tolerate heavy use. This chair is meant to be exhibited like a work of art and decoration. A classic example of Victorian wicker Circa: 1890 Dimensions: 44 quot;H x 31 quot;W x 19 quot;D Finish: Good refurbished original finish. Some of the wrappings have been replaced.
Rosewood Server with Fantasy Carvings

Outrageous Rococo Victorian rosewood server with thick red and white marble top with beveled black border. The marble repaired is a rare rich red and white color. The mirror has a fantasy winged serpent creature with tongue out menacingly viewing an open mouthed snake on the right hand side. The wings feature superb detail in the carvings. The lower part of the serpent, along with flowers and leaves, are carved in relief in front of an original mirror. The two drawers are asymmetrical and have three dimensionally open carved vines and leaves applied to the fronts. Two large cabriole shaped legs with carvings at the top go from the surface to the base in front. The cabinet has two mirrored doors with a heavily carved molding for a border. We have had the interior of the cabinet restored. It has four compartments made of satinwood with rosewood fronts. This cabinet was certainly made by one of the fine NYC craftsmen of the period. Alexander Roux used rich carvings and unusual marbles on many of his pieces but we can't make a definite attribution. This is a unique attractive piece with most amazing carvings Circa: 1860 Dimensions: 62.5 quot;H x 62 quot;W x 23 quot;D Finish: Very good original finish and patina Price: 16,950.00

R.J. Horner Carved Oak Server

Wonderful solid quartered oak server attributed to R.J. Horner, NYC. The crest, typical of that found on the better Horner pieces, is intricately open carved. It features a bust at either end, dolphins, two figures blowing horns, and a central convex oval surrounded by a wreath with a face beneath. There is a middle drawer underneath the surface that has a lion at either end and a carved mask in the middle. Notice that the interior wood in the drawer is also oak. A fully carved semi nude woman forms the frontal supports. A bookcase with similar carved women and masks can be seen on page 70 of quot;Victorian Decor quot; by Martin M. May. This piece has very vibrant tiger grain. There is a slight water stain on the top. This is a great example of the quality and detailed carving found on the best of R.J. Horner furniture Circa: 1900 Dimensions: 50 quot;H x 51 quot;W x 23 quot;D Finish: Very good original Price: 6500.00

Lovely Overlay Panel Lamp

Lovely Slag Glass Panel Lamp with the original curved eight panels and underneath them are the original eight scarlet slag border panels. The metal overlay is especially well done with sprays of flowers, leaves, and twisting vines. The delicate but heavy base has a middle section that looks like two curved handles with ornate leaves and draped decoration in the metalwork down to the fancy round base. The sockets are original and the cord was replaced well by the previous owner. The metal interior ribbed straps that secure the panels are indicative of an accomplished company like Bradley and Hubbard although we could not find a signature Circa: 1910 Dimensions: 22 quot; H x 18 quot; Diameter Finish: Good original, glass all original with no damage Price: 1395.00
