Postally used Union patriotic cover with full color vignette of officer brandishing his sword while holding an American flag. Addressed to Miss E. Aubin, Victory Mills, Sarotoga Co., N.Y., with C.D.S. Troy, N.Y., May 16, with 3 cents George Washington [#11] postage stamp tied on with a grid cancellation. Fine early war, circa 1861, postally used patriotic cover.

Footnote: Miss Eliza Aubin, the recipient of this patriotic envelope, had a brother that fought in the Union Army during the Civil War. His name was Francis Aubin. He was a private in the 22nd New York Infantry. "Frank" as he was known, was mortally wounded on September 14, 1862, in the battle of South Mountain, Maryland, during the Antietam campaign. He died from his wounds the next day, September 15, 1862.
