I have this day levied this fi fa on the following property to wit; a negro woman aged about fifty years, one set blacksmith tools, one lot wagon and harness, one carpet, one rg, one set shovel and tongs, one feeder, one walnut dining table, twelve chairs, one carry log, four axes, one sofa, levied on as the property of the defendant, Martin Wilcox.

May 6th, 1842

William V. Ker, Deputy Sheriff, R.[ichomd] C.[ounty]

Light age toning and wear, and a couple of small archival tape repairs. Remnants of old wax seal at top of the document. Very fine 1842 Georgia writ listing slaves among the levied property.

Footnote: Fieri Facias, or "fi fa" as it is usually abbreviated, is a writ of execution after a judgement is obtained in a legal action for debt or damages. In the 1800's it was usually executed by a sheriff who had the authority to sell goods and property to make good the amount of the judgement against the defendant.
