Unique Victorian walnut easel with it's own custom carved original oval frame. The nature of the style and carvings lead us to attribute it to Philadelphia but the exact maker is unknown. The top crest features some fancy carved calligraphy initials (?) with a head at the peak. The entire frame is decorated with an ornate carving in a recessed center. Two anatomically correct male children hold up the oval frame - a wonderful feature! A bold, carved, horizontal spindle joins the two uprights below the frame. The frame has the original gilt liner and carvings around the concaved edge. There are a few tension splits in the frame and liner. The interior of the oval measures 24"H x 18"W which is a rather standard measurement for oval paintings. This could serve many uses besides holding a favorite painting. It would be an outstanding vehicle to display a restaurant menu, announcement of events, or use your imagination! A rare and unique piece! Circa: 1860 Dimensions: 85"H x 35"W x 31"D Finish: Good original Price: $6500.00
