Matched set of four laminated rosewood side chairs by J. & J. Meeks, NYC. Similar chairs are shown on pages 98 and 99 in "American Furniture of the 19th Century" by Eileen and Richard Dubrow. They appear to be a variation of the Hawkins pattern without the grapes.

They feature floral carved crests and open carved frames. One of the chairs has replaced casters on the front cabriole shaped legs. The fabric is old with some stains. The Hawkins pattern is one of the most elegant patterns made by the Meeks firm. These chairs are in the fine original condition that collectors prize. Circa: 1860 Dimensions: 41.5"H x 18"W Finish: Good original finish and patina. Price: $9500 for the Set of Four |
