There is a band of rosewood on the inner edge of this top (see photo). The outside edge of the table is intricately carved. The skirt has applied carved rosettes and a curved drawer at either end with original wooden pulls. The base features an extensively carved double pedestal and open carved stretcher. There are original recessed brass castors on the feet. This table came from the mansion of Joseph Harrison, Jr. (see table to the left in the attached room setting photo). He was an internationally known industrialist who personally supervised the construction of Russia's first railroads. This table sat in the art gallery room of his Rittenhouse Square mansion in Philadelphia. Among famous works that resided in this room were Charles William Peale's "Artist in his Museum", Gilbert Stuart's Portrait of George Washington and Benjamin West's "Penn's Treaty with the Indians." This table has descended down in the family to our hands. We French polished the original finish. A superb quality and designed table with fantastic provenance! Circa: 1860 Dimensions: 31"H x 66"W x 43.5"D Finish: Excellent French polished original finish Price: $18,500.00 |
