In the center of the top is a circular bronze plaque with a seated cupid holding an arrow. Underneath there is more delicate gilt incising with scrolling, carvings, ebony highlights and burl work on the side stiles. The glass doors have ebonized picture frame moldings. The two drawers in the base have shaped wooded knobs decorated with more incised gilt. Even the sides of the bookcases are trimmed in burl and gilt. The three original interior shelves are adjustable and there are some slight stains and scratching on the tops of the bookcases, in keeping with their age. We found a matched pair of old brass dolphin keys to help open the doors (see photo). A matched pair of bookcases is difficult to find and lends itself to lots of storage along with many interesting opportunities for decorating. Circa: 1870 Dimensions: 54" H x 52" W x 15" W Finish: Good original Price: $12,995.00 for the Pair |
