Fantastic quartered oak grandfather clock with an exceptional carved case made by the Tobey Furniture Co, Chicago, IL. This clock is shown on page 422 of "Longcase Clocks and Standing Regulators" by Tran Duy Ly. The bonnet has a carved crest with a head in the middle, lattice work on the sides, fancy finials and full figured men playing instruments on either side. The base has an open carved lattice work door, lion heads and a pub scene in the bottom. The nine tube movement plays Westminster chimes or eight bells. The tubes and movement are signed by Walter Durfee, Providence, RI. Durfee movements are considered the best made during that period and are highly sought after by collectors. The pendulum rod has been replaced. The clock was originally sold by Tiffany & Co, New York - signed on the dial. The dial itself has not been polished but is in as found old finish. We could have it polished for an extra charge. A very impressive grandfather clock! Circa: 1900 Dimensions: 102.5"H x 28"W (at the top) x 17.
