Rare laminated rosewood parlor suite in the Rosalie pattern by John Henry Belter. For a similar example, see The Furniture of John Henry Belter and the Rococo Revival by Marvin D. Schwart page 43. The top crests on all three pieces consist of flower, fruit, and leaf carvings. Each piece is superbly designed with elegant curved forms and cabriole legs. Most sofas that we see in this form have upholstered backs while this one is laminated. There are some minor seam separations in the back of the sofa and several small pieces of laminate are missing from the backs of the chairs (see detailed photos) We bought the sofa from a different source than the chairs but they are virtually a perfect match. The fronts of all three pieces are in good original finish. We are selling this suite in "as found" condition. We would be happy to give a quote to the buyer on any level of restoration they wished to have done Circa: 1850 Dimensions: 39"H (sofa) x 82"W Finish: Fair Original Price: $14,500.00 for three piece suite |
