Possibly Meeks Rosewood Marble Top Table One of the most gracefully carved small early Victorian rosewood tables
we have offered! Surprisingly heavy and very unusual shaped original bevel edged marble
with corresponding shaped apron. The hanging apron carvings have been restored and
there is one small repair to base carving.
The base is delicately formed with a shaped center post and tapered curved scrolled
carvings all around that lean against it. There are four lovely scrolled feet with the original center
base finial. This fine table may well have been made by J & JW Meeks, New York City who
made exquisite transitional Classical/Victorian furniture in the mid 1800's.
Circa: 1855

Rosewood Meeks Henry Ford Armchair Victorian Laminated Rosewood Armchair attributed to J. & J.W. Meeks
in fine original finish. The armchair has a gorgeous open pierced carved back with deep floral and scrolled crest. The sides have leaves, grapes and vines, all in the "Henry Ford" pattern. The
frame has an accentuated form with gracefully shaped arms and seat with more scroll
carvings. The delicate cabriole legs have scrolled leaves. The deeply carved cartouche
in the seat apron is a slight variation to the Henry Ford carvings illustrated on pages 82, 83
and 100 of "American Furniture of the 19th Century" by Eileen and Richard Dubrow.
There are casters on the front and none on the back (which makes the chair recline
in a more comfortable position). The velvet fabric is old but usable. A very handsome chair from
the mid 19th century, made by one of America's most competent cabinet artisans.
