Exceptional Burled Walnut Work Table Exceptional walnut Renaissance Revival Victorian work table or
sewing cabinet. The shaped top was made with two pieces of book matched
burled veneer giving it a beautiful vibrant quality. The top drawer has a
concaved front with a shaped burled panel in the middle. The gorgeous
interior is made of a light satinwood and features a number of small
compartments. The underside of the lid has incise carved corners. A
"secret" button in the top middle allows this lid to fall down exposing a
desk top with the original blue fabric - looks like it was hardly ever used!
A fancy gilt border surrounds the edge. This is all bordered by a darker
satinwood. There is an original mirror under the lid (see photos). There
is a pull out "basket" that drops down from under the top drawer. This has
had a pleated fabric attached to it and has a wooden base to hold the fabric
down. When this basket is removed you can see the lovely carved and burled
bottom stretcher. Both the interior and exterior of the sides are
handsomely decorated with carved rosettes, fluting, burled panels, and
carvings. The stand retains the original rich patina with black accents.

The top pediment top was designed to hold a bust or vase and it has a
marquetry front
with an urn, flowers and a horn. Beneath this is a drawer with original
brass drop pulls and floral inlay. The bottom door has a lovely central
panel with birds and flowers flanked by an incised carved molding and carved

lock which was missing. We found an old brass pull that is a close match to
the two on the drawers and installed it. The interior of the cabinet is all
