clock. It has a top crest featuring a carved Egyptian bust, applied
rosettes, incised carvings and fancy turned finials (restored). The case is
beautiful with open carved sides, incised carvings, raised burled panels and
even an inset burled panel in the interior behind the pendulum. The frame

this clock is in absolutely wonderful as found original condition - just the
way the serious collectors like to find them. It even has the remnants of
the original label on the back (see photo). A very impressive and desirable

191109

Massive Centennial Walnut Presentation Clock Phenomenal Renaissance Revival Walnut Victorian Centennial
presentation tall clock. This extraordinary clock has a large 19" silver
dial with the inscription "J.B. 1876." We believe this clock was made for
the Philadelphia Centennial Exhibition and was likely displayed in one of
the convention halls at the time. It has a pin wheel jewelers movement
which we have had cleaned. It has a replacement sweep second hand, ordered
after the photos were taken. There is a single weight and a three vial
pendulum. The mercury has been removed from the vials for safety. The
monumental 140" case is truly spectacular. It has a carved crest with a
three dimensional carved bust - probably of William Shakespeare - perched on
a hooded plinth. A ring of little wooden balls encircle the dial. The
entire case is decorated with numerous finials, carvings (including some
faces) fluted and full burled columns, incised burled panels, carved knobs
and rosettes, and extensive burl. The sides and door of the case have an
original cut/etched glass. A burled panel enhances the interior of the
case. This magnificent rare Centennial clock is one of the BEST pieces of
furniture we have ever offered for sale!
Circa: 1876
Dimensions: 140"H x 50"W x 24"D
Finish: We polished the original finish on the case. It has a rich warm
patina. The very top of the crest has been restored along with some
moldings and finials. We colored these pieces to blend in well with the
rest of the original finish.

191107

Jewelers Regulator by Kroeber Gorgeous large walnut Renaissance Revival Victorian jewelers
wall regulator clock attributed to Kroeber. It has a metal box movement
with large porcelain dial, sweep second hand, brass weight, and large lyre
pendulum. We believe the case was made by Kroeber. It has a fancy crest
with top finial and a head in the middle flanked by two raised shaped burled
panels. There are double carvings on each side of the door. The glass on
the door is original and has the original gold decoration with "Regulator"
printed in the middle. The base has a burled panel with open carving
(replaced) just under the door. The top and bottom finials are old
replacements. Most of the jewelers regulators that we come across are
Eastlake - later Victorian. This is an elegant and stylish clock from a
slightly earlier period!

191103

Walter Durfee Pattern #20 Tall Clock Spectacular Walter Durfee Pattern #20 oak cased grandfather clock. This clock is shown on page 152 of "Longcase Clocks and Standing Regulators" by Tran Duy Ly. The tubes, back of the moon dial, and the movement mounting board are all signed by Durfee (see the four photos here).
The top has a devil's head carving. The hood has the open carved sides and a door with a beveled glass. The entire case is, in the typical style of Durfee, beautifully designed with intricate carved moldings, raised beveled panels, detailed carvings and Waterford beveled crystal on the front door and sides. The base is totally carved with lovely claw feet on the front and rear. The three weight movement has nine original tubes and strikes the hour and plays chimes on each quarter hour. It plays Westminster chimes or Chimes on eight bells. It has a revolving moon dial with the original paint. The face is beautifully embossed with the original gilt patina. We decided not to resilver the dial but this could easily be done for an extra charge if requested. The clock was sold by "Woods & Hosley, Springfield."
We tried to Google this name but couldn't find it so are unsure which "Springfield" this is. Durfee clocks were sold by many other fine jewelers around the country - including Tiffany & Co. Since these photos were taken we have had the movement serviced and the clock is being sold in good working order. Durfee was the premier clock maker of the turn of the century period and this is one of the best clocks he made!
