111259

Pottier and Stymus Faux Bamboo Dresser Rare Renaissance Revival Victorian maple faux bamboo dresser
signed by Pottier and Stymus, New York on the inside of the top drawer (see
photo). The top raises up to an unusual architectural platform. There are
five drawers. Four of the drawers have original rosewood turned bar pulls.
A key (lock doesn't work) is used to help open the top drawer. The top
drawer has wonderful Japanese style double inset painted panels with a bird
motif. The left panel had a separation that has been repaired. The drawer
fronts and side panels of this chest are made of birdseye maple. This is
typical of the later faux bamboo pieces made by R.J. Horner. What is
unusual about this, is the rest of the case is all made of vibrant tiger
maple. There is a rosewood faux bamboo molding that surrounds each drawer
front and panel and generally frames the chest. It rests on four inverted
bowl feet with the original castors. This style, inspired by Japanese
design of the time, was popularized with a line of faux bamboo by R.J.
Horner. This piece predates the Horner pieces. It is an extremely rare
piece made by one of the premier NYC makers of the time. We believe it is a
unique design - custom made. The combination of tiger and birdseye maple
with the rosewood is truly stunning! This is only the second piece we have
ever had that was signed by Pottier and Stymus!

R.J. Horner Faux Bamboo Side Lock Chest Stunning faux bamboo Victorian tall chest with side lock
attributed to R.J. Horner, NYC. The beveled mirror has a beehive finial on each side with a spindled top. The five drawers all have the original bar
pulls. The drawers, mirror, and side panels are all framed by quarter round
faux bamboo moldings typical of the R.J. Horner firm. The side bar on the
right side was originally used to lock the drawers to keep the maid from
getting into the gentleman's belongings when he was absent. The lock is
still intact but we don't have the original key. I have included an old key
to put in the lock for "looks." This is a fine example of this genre of
furniture in prime original condition!

111254

Rare Victorian Full Princess Chest Majestic large walnut Victorian full princess chest with original
white rounded corner marble tops (some minor stains in marble). The top
deeply open carved crest has an incised carved raised shaped shield in the
middle. The original arched top mirror is bordered by a thin fancy
molding. The mirror is flanked on each side with a fancy half round candle
cup and open carvings. (The support for the left candle cup is replaced by a
previous owner) There are four drawers on each side - each having two round
wooden pulls within a round molding. There is some old writing in pencil
under the marbles with a date of 1866. More recent writing indicates the
former owner as being from Oyster Bay, Long Island (see photo). We very
seldom find full princess chests - ones that have a full length mirror
between the two banks of drawers. It has a duel function of providing a
full length dressing mirror with drawer space on either side. A classic,
rare Victorian chest in an attractive and useful form!

Faux trim moldings decorate each of the four drawers, mirror, side panels
and frame of the chest - typical of the design used by Horner. Each drawer
has a faux turned bar pull. The chest has the original turned knobs that hold
the mirror to the frame. The surface of the chest shows a darker spot in
the middle back where the veneer has partially worn off (see photo). A very
lovely example of this aesthetic designed style of furniture!

111252

Faux Bamboo Lockside Chest Rare Aesthetic Victorian faux bamboo birdseye maple lockside
chest attributed to R.J. Horner, NYC. There is a beveled mirror on top with
an ornate spindled crest and side returns. A quarter round bamboo turned
molding frames the mirror and side panels. There are four larger drawers in
front with a narrower top drawer. Each of these drawers has an original
bamboo styled bar pull and half round moldings - typical of the Horner case
pieces. The right side swings open to allow the owner to open the drawers.
We have an old key for looks but it doesn't work the lock - the drawers
never locked. A previous owner had the back replaced (see photo) but this
doesn't show when the piece is up against a wall. An example of a vanity
in this style is shown on page 140 of "Masterpieces of American Furniture
from the Munson-Williams-Proctor Institute." R.J. Horner is generally
recognized as the leading manufacturer of such pieces. A lovely chest with
great proportions and style!

Renaissance Revival Walnut Seven Drawer Chest Beautiful walnut Renaissance Revival Victorian gentleman's

is closed it locks several of the lower drawers. The corners of the chest
have three quarter round columns with burl at the top and fluting and
