11127

Winged Gargoyle Oak Dining Table Unusual solid quartered oak dining table with gargoyle carved base. The 54" top has a carved edge and deeply carved curved skirt. Two large leaves were made to match - even the skirts are carved. When fully extended the table opens to a 114" oval (see photo). There is a slight gap in the top with the leaves in, due to the fact that the skirts touch before the top wood. The split pedestal base reveals a large center support leg when opened. The base features four intricately carved, open mouthed, bearded gargoyles with serpent tails, wings, and breasts. This table was likely made by R.J. Horner, NYC although we have never seen this exact motif
on a table before. The base rests on four claw feet. There is an original
metal mechanism for holding both the top and base tightly together. Most ornate carved tables are at least 60" in diameter. It is unusual to find one of this smaller size. The ornate carved base and top with two large skirted leaves make this a very attractive and functional dining table!

Carved Elk Head Walnut Huntboard Fabulous Renaissance Revival walnut Victorian huntboard with
an original white marble top. The top features a wonderful three
dimensionally carved elk head with wooden antlers and fruit. The top has
been cut in back of the crest - some portion extended up a bit in back
originally but this is not apparent when looking at the piece. There are
two shaped shelves on either side of the mirror. The base has three drawers
on top with tear drop pulls and two cupboard doors beneath. The right
drawer is fitted for silverware. The doors have intricate carved fowl and
game on the fronts. There is a shelf (one replaced) in each cupboard. The

dining
table. The dining table has two leaves (13" and 15" wide). When the
top
opens a center leg (replaced) supports the middle of the table. The

feet
and a shaped burled raised panel in the middle of each side of the

The skirt of the table has a band of unusual geometric inlay that is
found
also on the backs of the chairs. In addition to the inlay, the
chairs have
fancy turnings and incised carvings. We had the seats and backs
reupholstered. It is very difficult to find matching tables and
chairs from
this period. The inlay and lion carvings are unusual on tables and
chairs.
