Beautiful Quality 10 Piece Dining Suite Beautifully Carved Fine Quartered Oak Ten Piece Dining
Room Suite with eight all matching chairs, large rectangular table with ten original leaves,
and a large sideboard with mirrored gallery top. This suite is one of the BEST we have
offered in years! Four of the major attributes are the quality of the quartered oak
that was use to construct it, its sturdiness, the fine original condition, and the remarkable
original finish. The table top with leaves is in superb original finish which leads us to believe
it was mainly used with thick table pads that preserved the original varnish over the years.
The table has a grooved edge and thickly ribbed apron all around with pretty
scrolled leaf carvings on each corner. The base is outstanding with long plaques on each
end with smiling wind blower faces and great scroll carvings from one end to the other.
The base has graduating plinths with square feet. The feet are on old casters that have inset rings dated "July 10, 1886." The table has an excellent design for sturdiness and appearance. The original center leg is actually a whole center portion that independently slides to support the interior of the table. Notice the delicate incised decorations and the ribbing on the back of the panels. The runners work very well and the original TEN leaves are all quartered oak and also fit the table very well (just one tiny burn on one leaf).
It is very solid even when fully extended. See the photos of how BIG this table can be as it is 179 inches which is almost 15 feet long! The eight chairs consist of two host armchairs and two sidechairs. These also are remarkably sturdy. The top cresting is elaborately carved with a wind blower's face across the back. There is pretty leaf carving at the top of each side stile with a fancy ribbed finial. The side stiles have an open vertical post that is both ribbed and shaped. The front legs have corresponding ribbing and shaping which is similar to the apron of the table. They also have fancy floral carvings under the seat and turned stretchers on the base. The upholstery is old but usable. The large two part sideboard has a beautifully carved mirrored gallery with shelving. There is some silver loss to the original beveled mirror. The sideboard is also superb quality with a double top surface (slight board split), fancy turned supports on one level, and ribbed shaped supports on the second level (similar to the chairs and table apron). There are three carved leaf scrolled panels on the top with two brass plate rails on the back. The surface edge is also nicely carved. There are wind blower heads on the drawers below, two large carved door cabinets, and a very unusual shelved open section in the middle of the base. Even the bottom edge baseboard is well carved. The three top drawers retain their original cloth lining. To open the drawers you reach into the mouth of the wind blower whose face forms the handle! Along with being very useful and sturdy for daily use, this fine quality set is both beautiful in form and construction.

Rosewood Server with Fantasy Carvings Outrageous Rococo Victorian rosewood server with thick red
and white marble top with beveled black border. The marble (repaired) is a
rare rich red and white color. The mirror has a fantasy winged serpent
creature with tongue out menacingly viewing an open mouthed snake on the
right hand side. The wings feature superb detail in the carvings. The
lower part of the serpent, along with flowers and leaves, are carved in
relief in front of an original mirror. The two drawers are asymmetrical and
have three dimensionally open carved vines and leaves applied to the fronts.
Two large cabriole shaped legs with carvings at the top go from the surface
to the base in front. The cabinet has two mirrored doors with a heavily
carved molding for a border. We have had the interior of the cabinet
restored. It has four compartments made of satinwood with rosewood fronts.
This cabinet was certainly made by one of the fine NYC craftsmen of the
period. Alexander Roux used rich carvings and unusual marbles on many of
his pieces but we can't make a definite attribution. This is a unique
attractive piece with most amazing carvings!

Inlaid and Burled Walnut Cabinet Credenza Gorgeous Renaissance Revival walnut Victorian cabinet credenza.
It features ornate marquetry inlay on each of the three top drawers and
includes floral inlay on the front doors and sides. In addition, the
cabinet is profusely decorated with original gilt incised carvings, gilt and
ebonized highlights, extensive burled panels, and full frontal columns.
There is a fancy original brass pull in the top drawer and keys to help open
the other two. The interior of the cabinet is constructed with a number of
adjustable small shelves. The door interiors and back of the inside are
made of a vibrant satin wood. It has an interesting locking mechanism -
when the right door closes, it automatically locks the left side door (see
metal catch on top inside edge of left door). There originally were side
returns on each side of the top on either side of the drawer. These are now
missing but it doesn't impact the beauty of the overall design and
presentation. A wonderful quality and stylish piece!

The arched top frames a semi circular convex panel with gorgeous marquetry
with birds. The front, including the three cabinet doors, feature floral
and musical instrument inlay. The case is also decorated with extensive
fancy brass trim, original gilt incised carvings, and exotic lighter wood

that they took up filled with wooden inserts that can easily be removed
should the owner wish to install new locks. We had three exceptional period
brass pulls which we attached to help open the doors. The interior of the
cabinet and shelves are made of lovely birdseye maple and satinwood (see

quite a rarity on its' own. I have also photographed the locking
mechanism on the left cabinet door. It is more sophisticated than most - a
further indication of the care and quality that Herter took with his pieces.
It is stamped with the number "1019" on the back. This is a beautiful
