Antique cast iron bank..JOLLY NIGGER.. 1st..Let me say that using this word in the advertising is only a reflection of the history/title of the bank and in no way reflects any demeaning remarks towards anyone. This is the TITLE of this bank.

Right hand (platter shaped) shovels coins into his open mouth with his eyes rolling back in his head with the depressing of lever on his back.

Original hand painted red jacket with red bow tie. This bank does not have any over painted areas at all. He has red lips with white teeth.

"JOLLY _ _ _ _ _ _ BANK" PAT MARCH,14,82 raised lettering and date embossed on back of the bank.

Eyes roll back in his head, when lever on his back is depressed, and moves his hand towards his mouth.

Mechanism is in excellent working order.

HEIGHT IS 7 inches.

EXCELLENT ORIGINAL CONDITION WITH NORMAL PAINT LOSES DUE TO HIS AGE.

I have done a little research on this bank and March 14, 1882, # 255,090 , Charles G. Shepard and Peter Adams, Jr.,purchased the patent from the Stevens Company.

GUARANTEED AS STATED

Speaking Dog Mechanical Bank. 1885. Painted ANTIQUE SPEAKING DOG MECHANICAL BANK
Shepard Hardware Co.,Buffalo NY. "Speaking Dog" Mechanical Bank. 1885. Painted cast iron.
Peter Adams and Charles Shepard Bank. The bank is in her original condition with no restoration.
To operate the bank, depress the lever on the base near the dog, which makes the girl's right arm to move back, dropping the coin placed on the small tray into the seat opening beside her. The dog opens its mouth as if barking and wags its tail. The bank works great.
I do not have a key to open her up. There is some normal paint loss, but otherwise, a nice bank.
It is 7 1/2 inches tall x 7 inches high and is marked with a patent date of July 14, 1885 on the bottom.

Manufacturer: Shepard Hardware Co.,Buffalo NY

Your Price: $1750.00
