This charming piece is a Butter Basket. Chilled water was poured into an opening on the side. This kept the butter pieces firm.
Haviland Limoges Meadow Visitors Pattern Is A Wonderful Pattern Of Butterflies And Pink Florals With Hand Painted Accents.
With its twisted handle and ribbed shape accented with gold trim it is lovely. When the butterflies are added it becomes uniquely beautiful!
Haviland produced several special use pieces along with the usual dinner serving pieces - such imagination!
This one is most rare and one to treasure!
Back stamp is shown and dates this piece to the late 1800's.
