The forerunner of the modern "director's chair" is a form that has antecedents in ancient Greece & Rome. A closely related but less interesting example is in The Musee des Arts Decoratif in Paris and was exhibited at the Grand Palais Paris "Industrial Design" exhibition in 1860.
