aa2623
firescreen brass & wire Brass & Iron fireplace screen , this type of screen / fender is very hard to come by. As you can see it is higher than the average fender of this type .The design is also quite handsome , it has a lot going on & yet is still understated. It is brass & wire, the condition is excellent & this shape is rare & hard to find .It is almost a straight front with ever so slight curvature at the ends. So you can see that you will get a lot of protection from flying sparks. It dates from the 19th century .42" wide including the slight curvature of 8 ½" at each end x 24" high. Be sure to browse my entire web catalog for more great antique fireplace dressing.

ARCH20
Antique Forged Iron Door Latch Architectural Absolutely wonderful architectural item here – this is an early door latch probably dating form the late 18th century. It is hand forged in iron with a thumb latch on the top that is still in working condition. It is encrusted over with old green paint. I love the shapeliness of it – I think it would be spectacular on an early door. These are almost impossible to find in good condition and in shapes like these. The perfect item to compliment an early door in your restoration project. It measures 6 ¼" at highest x 1 ¼" at widest x 1 5/8" at deepest.

ARCH23
Antique Bronze Flag Pole Eagle Architectural Here is an absolutely wonderful 19th century solid cast bronze flag pole eagle. The definition is extremely fine – it was very well casted. There are remnants of some oxidation going on as well as some silver leaf over the bronze. Each feather is prominent. He has a slight amount of wear – just as one would expect for sitting on top of a flag pole for many many years. Again the bronze is so very well casted. Totally an American work of art! He measures 7 ½" at highest x 5 ½" at widest x 2" at deepest.

ARCH002
Antique Classical Bronze Furniture Mount Here is a lovely casted bronze figural furniture mount in the form of St. George slaying the dragon. It is finely casted in bronze with nice detail measuring 4 ¾" x 1 1/8". It has good weight it is not completely flat. It is almost casted in a repousse and it is quite solid it will not bend or break. This would be a fabulous ornamentation for a plain box or a piece of furniture to use as an escutcheon maybe. I can’t tell you how old it is although it does have a very rich and warm patina – I do suspect that it dates from the early 1900’s.

ARCH003
Antique Cast Iron Centurion Door Knocker This is a very nice black cast iron door knocker. It is of a nice small size measuring 4 ½" x 2 ¼". The full body centurion forms the knocker attached to the highly figurative back plate. It is stamped on the back with the words Iron Art and the letters JM 79. The casting is very good and it is in the original black cast iron painted surface with a nice patina. This would make a wonderful door knocker for the back door even a powder room door maybe for the men’s room – It is a fantastic little piece!

ARCH005
Antique Architectural Clay Fish Water Fountain This is a very interesting 19th century architectural water fountain head. I believe it is made of clay – the detail is very fine and it has quite a primitive look. It appears to me to be a rainbow trout but I’m not quite sure. The piece is not quite perfect – it has a little bit of damage - the fin on his back has been knocked off at some point and you can tell that it happened quite a long time ago and there is a little chunk missing from the back around the edge. The form is good and the color of the clay appears to me to be just natural clay a little bit to the grayish side also as I’m looking it over now I noticed that one of the gills underneath the body appears to have been knocked off and glued back on. I don’t see a foundry mark on the fountain which is odd because you would think something this fantastic would make the maker proud – but probably just made by a small potter and that could be the reason it is not marked. It measures 17 ½"h with the base 7" in diameter.

Click for more detail...
ARCH006
Antique Hitching Post Black Jockey Architectural This is a super nice and genuine hitching post in the form of a jockey. I believe this hitching post is made of zinc and it is assembled in two or more sections. It has been over painted and the recent paint is crusted and flaking off revealing what appears to be the original paint underneath. Underneath is white shirt top I can see an old yellow color trying to break through – new blue paint that is flaking exposes a fabulous red color underneath. He is sitting on a typical hitching post base that is marked with a foundry name of – Langldis of Vermont Inc. Rutland, Vermont. Again this little guy is going to take a little TLC to bring him back to his original grandeur. It would be a dynamite project. The overall structure is in very good condition it is just the fact that he has been over painted I can tell you that a magnet does not stick & there is no rust on the exposed parts , that is what leads me to believe that he is Zinc -Moderate weight of aprox 40 pounds & can be shipped via fed x ground freight – he is still fun and still attractive! He measures 43"h x 14 ¾"w (base) x 14 ¾" deep (base).

ARCH012
Antique Neptune Cast Iron Fireplace Fireback One totally great late 18th or very early 19th century cast iron Fireback. It has a full body relief of Neptune. The detail is impeccable and the mythological subject matter will just give you goose bumps. The Fireback is so well done and the color so rich, wonderful and rare. Never over painted – it is in its original condition and in a remarkable state of preservation. It is great art work deserving to be framed or displayed in a major fireplace hearth. It measures 25 ½"h x 10 ½"w x ¾" deep. I may add that this Fireback weighs approx 50 – 70 pounds. I can’t lift it by myself – so I can’t tell you the exact weight!

D083
Rail RoadCasted Bronze Spikes 11 I have 11 of these finely casted 19th century bronze spikes. They are slightly graduated in size with one having the point slightly worn. I believe that they are boat building spikes. They have never been use, they are hand wrought, and they have a wonderful rich surface patina. They are so great! It is just such an amazing thing to find something like this from more then 100 years ago. So maybe if you are a nautical buff you could find a nice decorative use for these spikes. Once again, they are casted solid bronze and extremely well done. The larges one measures 8" long and the smallest is 4 ½" long.

AN025
Antique Fireplace Owl Andirons Quite spectacular this 19th century pair of fireplace andirons in the form of a owl. They are as life like and realistic as can be! I am so impressed with the detail. The casting is truly magnificent. You can see every wisp of the owls feathers – the ears are well pronounced, the talons are sharp and crisp. The owls have blown glass eyes that will reflect as the fire is roaring behind them. The glass eyes also have heat cracks in each one of them – which is totally acceptable - after all they are from the 19th century. They were well use and apparently well loved because they are still in their original lush rich black color. One of the firedogs has an old repair – which just adds to the charm. Suitable for any decorating – it is a fun idea for the fireplace. In my career we have had quite a few pair of owl andirons – but this pair far surpasses any that I have had simply because of the exceptional casting not to mention their warmth and charm. They measure 17" at deepest x 14 3/8" at highest x 8 ¾" at widest.

FEN27
Antique Brass Fireplace Fender Aesthetic This is a very unique fireplace fender. It is made of brass and it has one of the most unusual designs that I have ever come across. It is in a very typically aesthetic type of design. It is a great fender and again it is very unusual. It is brass and it has unique corners which I will include a picture of. It has a little bit of damage on the left side of the back part of the fender where it would go up against the hearth. It appears that the folded over molding that should have been there is not there – it is missing. But in no way does it effect the look or design or function of the fender. This fender without that little bit of damage would be selling for double the price – so this is a good buy – a bargain on this one! It measures 41" long x 8 ½" high x 13 ½" deep.

FEN28
Antique Cast Iron Fireplace Fender Rococo Polychrome A very exciting fender here – dating form the early to mid 19th century. It has a very elaborate design. It is unique in the fact that it is so rococo and Chippendale looking in a floral and shell design. Very architectural in nature. This one is cast iron and it has the original polychrome touches of gold and a slight cream color. It has a weighted interior. The weight goes all along the edges and front on the inside bottom. This is quite the heavy fender. As you can see – look closely – the flow in the design is quite exceptional. It would do well with almost any styled fireplace hearth. It measures 51" at widest x 14" at deepest x 8" at highest.
