Clock Signed Galle: French Fiance
"Emile Galle" circa about 1875.Unbeleivebly this grand specimen is in perfect condition& is in running order. It measures 19" h x 18-½"width of base. There is one other example of this work known, in the museum of Luneville in eastern France. As you can see the detail is superb. Here’s a little about Emile Galle…. World Famous for his innovative work in several areas of the decorative arts, including glass, furniture & faience, Emile Galle` (1846-1904) was born & died in the town of Nancy in eastern France. He first learned the craft of ceramics: these by helping his father Charles run the family business in the nearby town of Saint Cle`ment. The Galle factory at Saint clement produced fantasy faience items during the period 1864-1876. By this time Charles had retired and the production of faience was transferred to Nancy. The faience of Galle is characterized by a very fine composition& light covering of an enamel tinted a pale blue by the addition of cobalt oxide, often with polychrome ornamentation, recurring motifs include the cross of Lorraine, the thistle & crenated towers. About the clock works: movement is French & original to the clock. The works are marked with the makers name "Marti" Bronze medal for Paris Expo; works have a platform lever escapement & strikes on the hour & half hour. The works are in very good running order .search clock clocks porcelain Galle Fiance Delft San Clement French France mantle art pottery

CL11
Antique Cloisonne Cherub Bronze Clock Jewels Here is a precious and exquisite little 19th century gem. It is a wonderful clock that sits on a marble terracotta colored base. The central column is patinated metal and leaning against the column is a winged cherub in a hugely classical design having wings of an angel and holding a torch. The patina is very rich and wonderful and the detail is exquisite. The clock itself as you can see is cloisonné with a classical applied motif. The clock face is enameled porcelain surrounded by rhinestones. It is a French type movement circa 1840 – 1850. It has a cylinder escapement with pierced and engraved hands. The enamel dial is decorated with floral swags. The clock is running and it is an eight day. This clock has been inspected by Mr. Young of Belfast, Maine – my famous Scottish clock master. He has given it a clean bill of health and as you may notice by the pictures the original key is present. It measures 8" at highest x 3 3/8" at widest x 3" at deepest. What a beautiful clock for the night stand or desk. It is so exquisite in every way that putting it into words is not only impossible but it will never do it justice – I know I’m getting a little crazy but I just can’t help my self.

CL13
Egyptian Revival Clock Set Marble Spinx This is one totally amazing clock suite! It is a three piece suite consisting of a massive clock in the shape of a pyramid with matching obelisks. It has the most spectacular grain of onyx with all over carvings of Egyptian symbolism and gold gilding. The onyx is very demure in color with an off white colored base and natural veins in tones of amber and rust. The contrast of the gold incising against the onyx is truly an amazing combination. On top of the clock there is a gilt bronze figure in the form of a lion body with a man’s upper torso. I believe it symbols King Tut. The clock is in wonderful condition – there are some stress cracks that are very natural in the onyx on the lower portion of the base. One of the old obelisks has a very old repair that can not be seen with the naked eye. You truly truly have to look very very close. The four flat feet of the clock and obelisks are also in a nicely patinated bronze. This clock suite is of tremendous quality. The clock works have a brocot escapement (visible). Marked on the clock works is the words S Marti & Co. You know this company well they won the bronze medal for the Paris Expo in the 1850’s. The clock has time and strike gong. It is an eight day movement that strikes on the hour and half-hour. This clock has been fully overhauled by Mr. Young of Belfast, Maine my famous Scottish clock master. Once again a truly magnificent work of art! The pyramid clock itself measures 15 ½" at widest x 7 1/8" at deepest x approx 16" at highest. The obelisks measure 6 ¼" at widest x 4" at deepest x approx 20 ½" at highest.

CL1
Antique Tall Case Clock England Oak Inlay 19th Century Hodson Chorley tall Case Clock. Talk about your spectacular English clock. This one has more style and workmanship then you could ever imagine – this is a killer clock and I absolutely love it. It has a very fine oak case which has a bold yet elegant grain. It is inlaid with herring bone inlays of satinwood and ebony along with corner fan inlays on the waist of the clock along and base. The door is quite shapely – as I hope you can see. It has a very architectural bonnet – which just reminds me of soldiers or old German buildings. It has two brass rosettes on the central arch along with a central interesting brass ball finial which has a Scottish thistle leaf on top. It has side brass finials. It has a very interesting silvered chapter ring on brass dial with exceptional four season spandrels. The center dial is matted (frosty finish). The winding arbors ringed (which is a sign of early clocks). It has an eight day locking plate strike mechanism which strikes on the hour. It is a wonderful clock – signed on the face Hodson Chorley. If memory serves me well Hodson Chorley is of the Lankishere England Region. The surface patina on this clock is rich and lustrous. The color combination of the inlays on the brass is extremely spectacular! You can’t ask for more on a tall case clock – it is absolutely wonderful - I guarantee you! The one and only problem that I see is the glass door has a very old crack in it. It is hard to see but never the less it is there. The glass can be replaced with a nice old piece of glass. My Scottish master clock maker has gone over the clock. He has it set up and running and has given it a clean bill of health. It measures approx 92" at highest x 24 7/8" at widest x 12 ¾" at deepest.

CL3
Enamel Travel Clock Oriental Design RARE This is truly a beautiful work of art! It is hard to find theses days such a fine and detailed miniature travel clock. It is completely enameled on both sides with a oriental design in cobalt blue and rich lemon yellow – there are other oriental designs – it appears to me to be Japanese actually. It has a sea, mountains, and tress, with what would appear to be little boats in the ocean and on the other side is a mountain view and seashore with birds flying over head and a signature of the artist right there on the surface. The frame work is silver and heavily chased. The frame is hallmarked G925L and it is an eight day seven jewel Swiss movement by Hebdomas Watch Company. It has a gold color dial with phosphorescent hands and numerals. It has beautiful gold washed interior case and winding stem on the number 3. It measures 2 ¼" square x ¾" thick. The condition is truly excellent – it has a minor chip on the lower left corner of the cover on the blue outside edge. There is very minimal wear to the gold wash interior. The little clock actually weighs a ton and it seems to be hallmarked everywhere. It is running – keeping great time. It is absolutely beautiful and overall it looks like a miniature suitcase. The work is truly exceptional and the color combination is to die for. It is hallmarked everywhere – on handle, on the lock, on the frame. This is one extravagant and beautiful enameled compact traveled clock. It would make an absolutely wonderful wonderful gift and stunning for the lovely ladies bedside as well.

CL5
Antique Brass Carriage Clock Serpentine Shape Here is an elegant and very nice turn of the century French Carriage clock. I had my clock man check it out and he said it’s a great clock but it needs a little work. He said it has a cylinder escapement that is worn and it should be replaced with a platform lever. The clock is fairly clean with not much wear. The face is in great condition except for a very small chip in the porcelain on the very top right corner of the face - you can’t see it if you are looking straight at the clock. It has beveled glass on all four sides and on the top. The design of the clock is impressive having a very shapely serpentine all the way around. It measures 6" high including the handle x 3" wide x 2" deep. It comes complete with the key.

Click for more detail...
CL6
Hoadley Tall Case Clock Wooden Works Here is absolutely wonderful and outstanding piece of Americana. Talk about American furniture and clocks – here is the ultimate. It is a wonderful country clock with wooden works made by S. Hoadley of Plymouth. The clock case is of magnificent stature. The wood is cherry and it has a rich and wonderful surface patina and color. I suppose the clock may have been refinished some time long long ago because it truly has a beautiful and glorious surface that shows all the extravagant unmistakable grain of the cherry wood. The face is all hand painted and it is in a remarkable state of preservation - perfect. It is beautifully hand painted and it has the original medallion on the front, it has the original hands and a little hand painted country scene in a reserve at the top of the clock right above 12 o’clock. Flanking each side of the clock face on the bonnet there is a carved cherry column with a brass capital top and bottom it also has three brass finals that decorate a truly elegant fret work frontispiece. The clock has all wooden works as I mentioned earlier with weight and pendulum. It is a 30 hour movement. My Scottish clock master repair man has just gone over this clock for me and he has an interesting report. He states that the works were restored by someone who knew what they were doing a long time ago and the restorations are minimal. It does have the original weights and pendulum. It has a bell strike locking plate mechanism – circa before 1840. What it needs is new line cord it has wire cord now, pivots are a bit rusty and could use a good polishing. It could stand a nice good overall tightening and tweaking. It actually has the capacity to run but would run much better once it has been gone over. He said the reason it wouldn’t stay running for very long right now is because this clock has not been wind or used in quite a few years. He said this is very common. Overall he can’t find anything disastrous or major wrong with the works. It has a nice shapely cut out base – and I suppose I can go on and on but if you’re already looking at this clock and reading my description you already know all there is to know about this rare and wonderful scarcity of a clock. Just a little tidbit – the town of Plymouth Hollow, which is now Thomaston, is where Silas Hoadley came in 1810 to buy Eli Terry’s clock business. He went into partnership with Seth Thomas. Together they made fine clocks which are now very much sought after. That was a little bit from an old newspaper clipping which is attached to the inside of the clock door. Pick-up any book on American Clocks and you can find the story of Silas Hoadley – he is world renowned. I especially love it because it is so American. This is my idea of country furniture – it is elegant, well done, completely hand made and just wonderful! The clock measures 94" at highest (top finial) x 18 ¼" at widest x 10 ¾"at deepest.

CL10
Antique Bronze Marble Figural Clock Set Here is an elegant and very impressive 19th century clock suite. The suite consists of the opulent marble clock adorned with a putto reading a world book with two matching urns flanking either side. The off white marble is heavily veined in black with some tinges of rust color. The fully detailed putto is spelter with the original bronze color patination having very finely casted ormalou floral mounts at the base of the clock along with the very French feet also in ormolu. The movement is French having no makers mark. It is an 8 day movement which strikes on the hour and half hour having a very nice sound to the strike. The clock face is enameled metal with delicate floral swags all around. It is in very fine condition. The clock is running and my clock man says that the movement is all original with no replaced parts etc - virtually untouched. It could use a good cleaning - but that’s all! The two matching urns have the same great veining and are lavishly mounted with grotesque mythological faces on each handle along with an armorial crest in the center. Clock measures 20" high x 13 ½" wide x 6 ½" deep. So you can see this is one monumentally stunning Horological Garniture for the mantle or sideboard and it would compliment almost any period or style of furniture. Circa approx. 1870’s-1880"s.

CL18
3 Piece Clock Set Black Blue Enamel Incredible handsome and sophisticated - this three piece clock suite is in highly polished black slate. It has the two matching obelisk. The face of the clock is of an incredibly finely chased gilt bronze. The decoration is extremely delicate. It is lavishly decorated with blue and white enameled florals. This set is in extremely good condition. It is just as elegant as can be. The works are French and it is an 8 day movement with a bell strike. There is a label attached to the outside bottom base of the clock which reads Bradford W. Cheney Clock Maker 186 Warner Ave. Worchester Massachusetts 01604 – and I suspect that the Cheney label was probably put there when he maybe repaired or restored – or cleaned this clock for the client. Fantastic three piece suite in a very unusual design as well as materials. The clock measures 10 3/8"w x 13 3/8"h x 6 ½"deep and the obelisks measure 10"h x 4" deep x 4 5/8"w.

CL23
Antique American Tall Case Clock Jacob Moss Trenton What an exciting find – a real American clock. The case is quite spectacular. The first sight of this clock will take your breath away. It was made by Jacob Moss who worked in Philadelphia and Trenton from 1780-1790. The case is in a rich and wonderful mahogany having several different cuts of mahogany which all blend to make an exciting spectacle. It has lushes carved rosettes on top of the bonnet and a central pierced carved final that is very extravagant and very well done. It has flame finials which have been repaired or have been replaced. It has a tombstone door with a mold edge and a shaped brass escutcheon. The tombstone door is in a highly figured crotch grained mahogany. It has an absolutely wonderful applied carved figured mahogany panel in the bottom section. The Ogee or bracket base feet are nicely carved and quite spectacular – they have had some old repair. There are so many other small refined and hidden details on this clock. Like the very unusual fluted design in the quarter columns of the waist and nice outside dovetail which is fine and elegant. Now on to the clock works: It has an exceptional brass dial with a rare center second hand sweep. The brass dial has elegant foliate spandrels. The moon face is reserved and elegant – the art work is very well done. There is a plaque on the dial which reads – Jacob Moss Trenton. It is complete with two weights - the pendulum and the key. It has an eight day running duration. My Scottish master clock maker Mr. Young of Belfast, Maine has overhauled this clock – taken a good look at it – and he has given it a good bill of health. It is running and it strikes on the hour. And I must ad that the sound gives off the most powerful yet elegant and sophisticated ambiance ever. The case combination of mahogany and cherry is very striking. The surface patina is rich and lustrous. It is a clock of impressive stature being 99" high. It is 18 3/8" at widest x 10 7/8" at deepest. If you have been looking for a fine American tall case clock to compliment your collection look no further your search ends here…
