POT1

Majolica Art Pottery Pitcher Large Antique This is quite the spectacular 19th century European majolica pitcher. It has been a long time since I have seen a specimen like this one. It is highly embossed all the way around the pitcher from scenes of town life. There is tavern scene of men and women drinking. There is another scene of a man and dog warming themselves over a fire along with a scene of two angles chasing a man on horseback and it looks like they are running him out of town – oh some where in the back of my mind I know exactly what this story is but I just can’t think of at the moment. But anyways - the handle is absolutely grand and an unusual one at that. It would almost appear to be a woman’s long hair or possible the tail of a horse with a hand grabbing it on the top. The interior of this pitcher is green and the exterior is in some fiery colors of purple, green, and a sort of amber color. It is truly magnificent! It is in good condition – accept for an old repair to the right top side of the pitcher. It appears to be a professional repair that was done a long time ago. The pitcher is marked on the bottom with the impressed mark JM 17. I feel that even with the repair this was a very worthy majolica item – quite the rare example for the sophisticated collection. It is priced accordingly because of the repair. The pitcher measures approx 12 ½" at highest with an overall 8 ½" diameter.

The condition is excellent - I see only one pinhead size firing blip. This would be a good financial investment piece for the sophisticated Van Briggle Collection.

POT7

Antique Schramberger German Art Pottery Vase This is a fabulous craftsman era art pottery vase made by Schramberger, Germany before 1918. The beauty is exceptional and the art work is very fine. The condition Overall is excellent with a lot of surface crazing as would be expected. There is one small thing that I noticed - as I tilted it just right in the light on the very rim of the top opening it looks like it has a very old faint professional repair about the size of a little finger nail tip. The artist's initials are nestled in-between trees "TR". I have tried to get pictures from all angles. The only markings on the bottom are numbers hand written under glaze. The overall color is a little more subdued then these pictures - a little more mellow but yet vibrant. It measures 12" high with the opening of the vase measuring 3" in diameter.

POT9

Antique Delft Dutch Cow Sculpture Pottery Here is a rare and wonderful 18th century Dutch delft sculpture of a cow with a milk maid seated underneath him. The base below the cow also has some flowers and what appear to be three little frogs (jumping around). The sculpture is rather primitive in style, form and workmanship. As you probably are aware if you’re looking at this piece – the construction was done by individually hand molding in clay each decorative piece which over time may show a seam where that piece was attached. That is evident here and there on this very early sculpture. One of the cow’s horns and one of her ears must have fully cracked at the seam a long time ago and someone repaired them (there are remnants of glue on each). To me it looks like each one of the four feet were broken and put back on at some point. Around the neck and face area there is a different glaze or what appears to be unglazed – but I am quite sure that this was a form of color for that area. Now you can see her nose of course – and snout. There is some scuffing and enamel lost there. And as would be expected there is some chipped glaze here and there. Personally I fell that this 18th century sculpture is in fabulous condition for its age. Once again – this is a rare, early, primitive, Dutch, Delft Sculpture. Quite the collectible item! It measures 8 ½" at widest x 7 5/8" at highest x 4 ¾" at deepest.

POT11

Wedgwood Majolica Compote Antique Art Pottery Fantastic majolica compote in the fan pattern made by Wedgwood having the impressed mark Wedgwood and the registry date mark for 1879 approximately. It is a stunning bowl in an Anglo-Japanese design. It is in good condition except for one hair line that starts at the top and goes down towards the center of the bowl at about 2 ½" and I have a picture of it for you to see. It isn’t a big deal and it looks like it would be easy enough to repair although it is a very tight hair line so you wouldn’t have to worry about it running any further. The colors in this compote are breath taking! The interior is in a stunning turquoise with the contrasting forest green fan exterior. There are birds on branches embracing the exterior as well with exceptional detail, vivid colors and natural movement. The flowers alone are spectacular! It measures 11 ¾" overall in diameter x 6 ¾" high with a base diameter of 6 ¾".

POT12

Antique Art Pottery Majolica Vase Blue Rams Heads Birds Gorgeous and outstanding 19th century Majolica vase. It has the impressed mark FL on the base for Franz Lang Baudau 1825-1860. This stunning vase measures 22 ½" at highest x 10 3/8" at widest (including handles). The rich cobalt blue color enhances the classical white ram’s heads for the handles. The stunning and elegant sage green nicely contrasts the blue and white giving the overall piece such a sense of beauty and sophistication. There are exotic birds which are highly embossed on the front and back of the vase. The condition is perfect. This work and style is very reminiscent of fine Minton porcelain. If you like this vase from the pictures you will be blown away when you see it in person.

POT13

Antique Doulton Lambeth Ware Jug Pottery This is a glorious 19th century Doulton Lambeth Ware Jug! It has applied and incised decorations in naturalistic muted colors consisting of light sage green, shades of brown and white with highly contrasting and superb cobalt blue. It has the impressed mark Doulton Lambeth on the bottom with the date 1877. There are also impressed artist initials which could be either EN or perhaps EV – I’m not quite sure. I found a similarly decorated jug on page 263 of the book Doulton Lambeth Wares by Desmond Eyles revised by Louise Irvine. As you would probably suspect the work here is remarkable. What you wouldn’t expect is that the condition is excellent. The condition is breathe-taking not a single thing wrong with the entire piece. It measures 8" high with the base 4 3/8" in diameter. It is a fabulous piece of art pottery that needs no introductions!

POT14

Japanese Earthenware Vase Signed Well because of this vase I am now hooked on Japanese earthenware. When I saw this vase it took my breath away – my heart started to pound. When I got closer to it and ran my hands over the lushes glaze I fell in love. It is positively wonderful and if you are looking at it you probably already know it. It is a large Japanese earthenware vase from the Meiji period dating from the late 19th century into the early 20th century. Oribe is the style of the work and glaze. On the bottom it is signed by the artist Gorosuke - who is quite famous as I understand. This stunning vase has so much style and believe it or not so much form and movement. The color combination of the celadon and dark green jade greens against the off white and slight grayish veining is just a masterful contrast. I love the fact that it is signed by the artist. It is a large impressive size measuring 10 3/8" at highest with a base diameter of 5 5/8" and the top is 6 ¼" in diameter. The condition overall is very very good. It has only a few pits which where obviously done in the firing. My feeling is this – I can just see a room full of arts and crafts, Stickley furniture and this vase as a major accent in a room. I don’t know why it fits so well with craftsmen’s design but it does. Elegant, opulent, quite heavy, in good condition, signed by the artist – what more could we ask for!!!!!!!

POT15

Cobalt Blue Pottery Centerpiece Cherubs Here is an absolutely wild compote! It is so ornate and so incredible that it is really hard to describe. The shapely bold pottery centerpiece is all ribbed in form. The richness of the cobalt blue is incredible. It is heavily glazed. It sits on a bronze colored base that is made up of four classical dolphin heads and at the very base the feet are seashells. At each end of the compote there is a mounted seahorse with cherubs sitting along the side holding their reigns. I don’t know much about this compote other then I can guarantee you that it is 100 years old or more. Who made it? I have no idea. It is however in very good condition except for one old repaired break to one of the seahorse’s feet. Of course you know the reason I bought this because of the dolphin base! Quite spectacular – a grand decorative item for anywhere. It is large, it is heavy, it is beautiful and the detail is very very fine. The combination of the gold and cobalt blue is breathtakingly exciting! It measures approx 19 ½" at widest x 13 ¾" at highest x 11 ¾" at deepest.

POT16

Antique Mounted Majolica Centerpiece Gilt Bronze An elegant and delicious in color centerpiece dating from most likely 1880-1915. It is definitely in a glorious pattern with vibrant inspiring natural Fall colors. The majolica shallow bowl is mounted into a gilt bronze frame. The tray sits on four outstanding and usually designed feet. As you can see it is very much in the art nouveau style. I don’t know who the maker is although there is a mark underneath that is in the form of a C along with the impressed numbers and letter 35 M there are a few other marks that are hard to make out. I’m thinking European perhaps French. But I’m not 100% sure the only thing I do know for sure is that it is magnificent! It measures 18 3/8" at widest x 11 ½" at deepest x 4 ¾" at highest. It would look perfect between two fancy brass candlesticks on the sideboard or dinning table. It is in very good condition.
