AF64
Antique Mechanical Wood Cabinet Bar Cut Glass Where do I begin on such a wonderful and totally unique item? This is definitely for the person that has everything and need nothing - but who couldn’t possible pass this up. It is a wonderful folding mechanical bar. In the 19th century and early 20th century this type of item would have been found in luxury hotel suites, drawing rooms and bedroom suites. As I hope you can see this set is totally unique and complete! It is a wonderful oak cabinet. The oak is in its original mellow surface patina. This cabinet has never, and I mean never, been refinished. And again the finish is just totally magnificent – just the way we like to see it! It is in the rococo style. It is in perfect condition. As you can see it is quite shapely with little turn up feet having lovely applied carvings that make the reserves on each side. The knees are boldly shaped with leaf carvings. It is on castors for easy rolling – from room to room. When you open the two top compartments, as you open it, the bar raises gently to the surface. The bar top consists of everything one needs for that spur of the moment entertaining. The glassware is positively wonderful made of superior quality crystal. All pieces are cut in the same pattern. I believe the crystal is Irish, French or English – of which I’m not sure but this is my feeling. There are three large jugs with stoppers having silver collars and spouts. That silver collar is hallmarked. There are four tall shapely glasses, six on-the-rocks shapely glasses, six cordial/shot glasses, two bowls, a mechanical cigar cutter, a cigar lighter, a match container with side striker and a tall lemon squeezer. Like I said – every single thing you could think of that you would need. The mechanics work very smoothly, the hinges are nice and tight, the piece overall is nice and clean especially the interior. The interior is in light oak and is bright and clean – and it should be because when you are done serving you would fold the leaves up and the bar would go back into its compartment. So there would be little oxidation if any to the interior surface. I like this piece a lot! I have never seen one quite like it – I absolutely cannot say enough about it! It is a totally wonderful piece in stunning, stunning condition. Due to the picture limitation I wasn’t able to include enough here to truly capture the piece and the glassware – if you are interested please let me know and I can email you more photographs. The cabinet measures 33" high x 27 ½" wide x 26 ¾" deep – it is 53 ½" wide when the top is folded out.

AF58
Antique Faux Marble Decorated Sewing Stand Here is an amazing 19th century sewing stand in a rather unique form – examples like this are rare. The round ball top opens from the center to reveal a lift out tray and an open bottom where you would store your sewing materials. The tri-footed stand is extremely shapely. The stand is faux decorated to resemble marble – it is in a dark teal color with gray veining – this faux decorating or marbleizing was professionally done. These types of stands are generally made of a base wood – I have only seen examples in books thus far never actually owning any other one but this one. They were generally made of pine or sometimes a harder wood like mahogany or maple. They were always decorated in this manner – either by faux marbleizing or by japanning. This one is very very attractive and in excellent condition – and again dating from most likely the mid 1800’s. It would make a spectacular jewelry stand! It measures 33 ½"h with the diameter of the top 9 7/8".

AF59
Antique Carved Wood Torchere Pedestal Nice torchere pedestal completely hand carved of what appears to be oak. It has as you can see incorporated several different designs – which makes it scream of that look of antiquity. I believe this torchere dates from the middle 1800’s and overall the condition is fabulous. It is very sturdy – the surface extremely dry – just the way we found it – with that look we love – perfect to display a wonderful bronze or early candlestick on top. The base consists of three carved legs – on one of the legs the outer part of the carving is missing I hope you can see this in the picture. The base has a lot of worm holes – which excites me - I love that look. Wonderful Torchere – very sturdy and a nice height - higher then your average pedestal. It measures 50"h x 11 ½" wide @ widest point.

Click for more detail...
AF74
Antique Rare 18th C. Hand Painted Pembroke Table Here is an outstanding late 18th Century Pembroke Table. The mahogany table is hand painted over almost the entire surface of the shapely top. The fine tapered legs have simple line string inlays on the outer edges and hand painted down the center of the leg with green bellflowers. Oddly enough this table is in remarkable condition! The hand painting is very well defined. It has shaped leaves and a bowed top, one drawer and tapered square legs ending in cupped brass castor feet. The drawer is fitted with a lock and brass escutcheon. The painted decoration on the top includes a center round scene of a woman and child in a landscape. A wreath surrounds the picture with green leaves and red berries. There is also a conforming vine border with green leaves and five petal flowers with bows at each corner. Swags of flowers, two urns, and a foliate motif finish off the beautifully decorated table top. There are a few small restorations on the top surface but one would need to look very closely to find them. Everything about this table is stunning. It is very sturdy. Underneath the drawer there is a paper label that reads – H. B. Herts & Sons Fifth Ave, New York. HB Herts & Sons was established in 1846 and were importers of English, French, Dutch and Italian Furniture. The table measures 28" high x 30" deep x 33" wide (open) and 16 ¾" wide (closed).

Click for more detail...
AF77
Antique French Empire Davenport Desk Ebony Brass 19th Century Davenport Desk. The overall desk is ebonized rosewood and it is lavishly embellished with bronze Dore and a good amount of brass string inlay. First when you lift the top compartment with the bronze Dore gallery you can see it is a full fitted interior compartment in a very interesting wood- I don’t know exactly what it is but it could quite possible be Yew wood or bird’s eye maple. It has a locking mechanism. You lift the top desk surface you can then lift the lid back and you can slide the desk surface out to reveal a lidded desk compartment. The desk surface is the original hand tooled leather in a nice shade of teal green with three different rows of decorative tooling in gold. The desk has four doors on the right side and four false drawers on the left side. The desk is sitting on casters. The desk is finished on all sides so it can be easily displayed in the center of the room. It is in excellent condition needing only a good cleaning and polishing. Quite a special piece here with lots of form and movement. It measures overall to the top of the back gallery 36 ½"h x 22"w x 22"deep and from floor to the bottom of the desk surface where you would sit it measures 26"h. On the top of the desk surface - desk lid - there is an inlaid brass highly decorative insignia which appears to be initials CM. Made in the early 1800’s and is French or English of superior quality and decorative appeal. It is almost impossible to find a fabulous Davenport Desk these days.

EF79
Antique Ebony Brass Inlay Secretary Desk 19th Century Ebony Desk with Brass Inlay. This is a completely spectacular and highly sophisticated desk - overall in black ebony and tortoise shell. The desk is elaborately inlaid with brass and as you can see the brass is all over floral. It has two lined cupboard doors on the top with two doors under that. Underneath the desk top is a pull out writing surface. The felt is gone or it was either felt or leather covered writing surface which is worn - they always are. Underneath that is a pull out drawer – I believe that the black ebony is on rosewood – believe it or not. It is elaborately mounted on the top with full body figures. On the desk bottom on all four sides again elaborately mounted with a full mask head bust. As you can see the desk has incredible form and movement. The desk is made in two sections – the top lifts off the bottom. I have had this desk completely hand polished and it is in fabulous condition. It measures 50"h from floor to the top of the brass gallery, 30" wide across the front desk surface and 19" deep. The desk is beautiful and again sturdy and would make a wonderful vanity or dressing table for the lady.

aa2542
Chippendale Desk New England Cherry Early 1800’s Country Chippendale Drop Front Desk. This really is a little beauty, made of Cherry with a super nice grain & figuring in the wood & having a fantastic rich surface patina. This desk is completely made by hand of course & the beauty feature is the nice small size, I’ll get back to that in a minute. This little beauty has nice small & large dovetail construction; the shapely bracket base is all original with some minor small restoration, Chamfered back boards & drawer bottoms. The handsome brass gallery is not original to the top but really works well, only enhancing the overall greatness, the brass drawer pulls are period brass but not the original, I believe this desk would have had simple bail drawer pulls & they would be easy to find & put on the desk. The drop front surface is in good working order & the interior is fitted with the cubby holes & three small drawers. Underneath the drop front are three graduated full drawers with chamfered bottoms as well.
The desk measures 37 5/8" high to the top & including the brass gallery it measures 40" high
34 ½" wide
15" deep at the widest point
7 ½" wide very top desk top.
This desk is a real & genuine New England fine antique made sometime between 1790-1820.It is a good investment & completely useable, it is sturdy & strong.
