19th Century Portrait Oil On Canvas Dog Sitting Percy Sanborn, one of the most famous Maine painters! This portrait of a sitting Terrier type dog is oil on canvas. He is sitting in front of a green leaf & branch background. He is wearing a great studded collar with a large brass lock .Of course the art work is superb ! Percy Sanborn does the all time animal portraits. The original frame is carved wood & elegant gold gilt with interior molding & delicately carved outer edge. Signed on the back side of the canvas "Sanborn"& also signed on the stretcher as well. The overall size in the frame 27" x 23 ½" & the sight size is 24" x 20".So as you can see this is a nice big painting .This painting is from the estate of Richard Paine of Seal Cove Maine who was a famous passionate collector in this area of Maine for so many years. PTG28
Ornate Antique Gold Gilded Carved Wood Frame This is a lovely seascape entitled The Longships Lights Cornwall and signed on the right Harry Colls. It is either a print or watercolor – I am not quite sure. It is most likely a print. But I purchased this piece for the frame. The frame is elegant and elaborate and deserves quite the painting. It is hard to find a 19th century frame like this in good condition. I was absolutely knocked out by it – I love the brilliance of the gold and the multitude of patterns. The architectural moldings are deep. The exterior and interior are almost in a lemon yellow gold. You have a combination of high and low burnishing on this frame. It is a very deep frame almost boxing in the masterpiece painting that belongs within its embrace. Some of the patterns are a deeply carved shell surround by leaves and there are a million of them. I could go on and on regarding the extravagance of this frame. It dates from probably the 1870’s – 1880’s and it is in a remarkable state of preservation. Overall the frame is 30 3/8"w x 27 7/8"h x 3 1/8" deep. The sight size is 24 1/8" x 18 5/8".

PTG39
Napoleon on Bellerophop Framed Antique Photogravure Here is a spectacular early 19th century photogravure as you can see and as it is entitled Napoleon aboard the Bellerophop by William Q. Orchardson. This is a very fine and sophisticated picture housed in an empire period mahogany frame. The picture is very exciting and in excellent condition with exceptionally fine detail. On the back there is also a label written by hand that reads Napoleon aboard the Bellerophop and also the word that appears to be written in Germany "Photographische Gese Ashaft". The mood is pensive or somber and the detail as I said above is extraordinarily fine. Overall it measures 37 ½" x 27 3/8" and the sight size is 30 1/8" x 20".

PTG62
Antique Miniature Painting Ivory Portrait Signed Absolutely wonderful miniature work of art here! This miniature portrait is painted on ivory and signed at 3 o’clock by the artist SABEY or LABEY. On the back of the portrait there is the name of which I interpret to read – Duchess of Alben with the numbers 4341 and the letters BOP in fine fountain pen script or dip pen script. This beautiful little portrait rests on a velvet covered oval and it is topped by an oval beveled glass. This all sits into a wonderful silver repousse frame that is quite intricate in detail! I hope I have gotten enough pictures for you to see this. The condition of the overall framed portrait is excellent! You may want to polish the frame as it is in a tarnished state right now. There is an old pen written paper tag attached to this picture when I bought it and it appears to be period pen and script and it reads – French Miniature Artist Andre Labey (or Sabey) 1792 Duchess of Alben. It is a very nice miniature indeed deserving to be in a world class miniature portrait collection. The portrait measure 2 7/8" long x 2 ¼" wide. The sight size is 2 7/8" long x 2 1/8" wide. The overall measurement is 5" long x 4 ¼" wide. The beveled glass is in very good condition although it has of course little flea bits around the edge but that was from cutting it to fit into the frame and can not be seen when the glass is put into the frame. I did have to take this portrait out of the frame to determine what material the portrait was painted on and it is definitely ivory and the work is superior and fine.

PTG64
Antique Navy Print Boating Nautical Here is a very interesting print entitled - Captain. Commanding Admiral. Assistant- Surgeon. Naval Cadet. Copyright 1899 by The Werner Company, Akron, Ohio. In fancy script in the left hand corner it reads After G. Arnouto. As the title indicates the print depicts these men on a harbors edge. The colors are very vivid and sharp. The detail is exceptional. This piece would frame very well. The print has a touch of gloss to the picture. The condition is very good, there are a few water marks around the top and bottom edges of the paper – but they would not be seen within a frame. It appears to me that this print may have been taken out of a book because the left edge is somewhat perforated and a bit off center, margin wise, with the rest of the print – in any case it is a very interesting piece and well worth framing and hanging in any library, den or office. It would also be quite the addition to any boating connoisseur’s collection. It measures overall 17 5/8" x 12 1/8" and the site size of the print measures 13 1/8" x 9 1/8".

PTG65
Antique American Civil War Lithograph Art This is a very exciting piece! It is a lithograph by G.H. Buek & Co, N.Y. Copyright, 1885, By Brig. Gen’l S.B. Holabrid, QR Master Gen’l U.S.A. The lithograph is entitled 1861 XXVIII 1866 Lieut-Genl  Major-Genl  Brig-Genl  Staff  Field & Line Officers. The subject matter of this lithograph is very interesting. The colors are subdued yet natural and realistic. The detail is sharp and very in depth. The paper is thick and heavy that the lithograph is on and at first glance would appear to be a watercolor. The condition is very good – there is some slight burning to the edges but yet expected for its age. It measures overall 18" x 14 ¾" and the site size measures 14 ¼" x 12". This piece would frame very well. This lithograph is a very interesting piece and well worth framing and hanging in any library, den or office.

PTG67
Military GAR Photograph Framed Veteran Cross This is a very interesting, historic and patriotic photograph of a serviceman in the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR). The photograph is housed in a very complimentary dark stained carved oak wooden frame. The frame is in excellent condition with a rich surface patina. The photograph is crisp and clear with the serviceman in full uniform wearing a Veterans Cross medal having crossed canons, an eagle suspender and a red, white and blue ribbon. The man in this photograph is so stately – demanding attention - that I have no doubt he was someone of importance. The photograph is in a fabulous state of preservation – no acid spots or burning what so ever – excellent! This is quite the piece and a must have for a Military, Historical, Patriotic, Civil War collector. Overall it measures 22" x 26" and the sight size is 15 ½" x 19 ½". Circa 1880's.

PTG68
Antique Pair Miniature Paintings Ivory European A wonderful pair of 19th century portrait miniature paintings on ivory. One is signed Smart and the other one is unsigned. Both portraits appear to be of a European Gentlemen. They are housed in papier-mâché very simple black lacquered frames with a gold gilt interior molding embracing the actual painting. One is topped with a repousse bronze bird and the other is topped with a bronze repousse Scottish Thistle which is where the hook is attached for hanging on the wall. The back of the frame is covered in an old book page or newspaper. The writing is European either French or perhaps Italian. They are both in very good condition and once again one is signed on the lower left Smart. The work is exceptional – showing every wisp of hair down to the smallest of light glare in both of the men’s vivid blue and brown eyes. The colors are dramatic – quite the work of art! Overall they measure 5 1/8" x 4 ½" and the sight size is 2 ¼" x 1 7/8".

PTG69
Cat & Dog Pastel Painting Gold Frame Art Absolutely a great work of art here. Lovely pastel of a puppy and a kitty nestled in a wooden box filled with straw and blankets. They look like two little orphans to me! The work is spectacular. The subject matter will just kill you dead. Professionally matted and framed. The frame is a lovely wood and from the grain is appears to be oak which is fully gold gilded. There appears to be a signature on the lower right but it is illegible. Being that it has been recently re-matted and framed I have no desire to undo that work. It appears to me that this is a vintage painting and judging by the frame which is an old one I suspect that this work dates from the early 1900’s. Again everything about it is perfect and wonderful and if you like dogs and cats this is the painting for you! Overall the pastel is 26" x 22 ½" and the sight size is 13 ½" x 9 ½".

Still Life Oil Painting Flowers Carved Gilt Frame Lovely old oil painting on canvas .Fresh from an estate in Camden Maine .This is very nice art work depicting a dramatic floral still life .The work is exceptional & the colors are naturalistic & life like. This is actually a very nice small size painting .To me it appears that this painting probably dates from the 1950’s ,it has a 1/8" split in the canvas & a small pressure poke, that does not go all the way through the canvas. These blemishes cannot be seen unless you are going over the picture with a fine tooth comb. The frame is a great Victorian carved wood & gold gilt one that is quite exceptional. The painting measures overall in the frame 18 ¼" x 12 ½".The sight size is 14" x 8 ½".be sure to view my entire web catalogue for more paintings, prints & art.
