L139
Antique 3 Graces Silver Plated Candelabra Large Talk about making a statement – here is an absolutely wonderful candelabra centerpiece. As you can see the full figures in the center are of the three graces. There is so much work and movement in this candelabra that it is very hard to pick a starting point to describe it! It is made of silver plate and I believe it was made in the 19th century. It is all hallmarked and I believe the hallmarks could be attributed to Elkington Silver Co of London - one of the most famous silver makers of the 19th century. The candelabra has 7 branches. I hope you can see the movement in the branches – it is just so naturalistic. It just undulates and flows to an unbelievable degree. Around the top crest or canopy of this candelabra there are grapes in a grape vine motif. On the base on every side of the four sections there are the initials in fancy script ARJ and it is the same initials on every panel. The work is spectacular, the silver is so lustrous, and there are no worn spots and no pitting – it does however have one problem one of the candle branches has been broken and repaired close too the spot wear it sits into the ring - the repair seems to be professional and very solid. You are not able to see it unless you are closely inspecting the candelabra. It is designed all the way around with the intentions of being the center focus of the table. It is monumental in proportion and breathe taking in every way! The hallmarks are somewhat faint but never the less they are there. And on a nice clear bright day I will try to decipher them again and add them to the description. It measures 31" at highest x 12 3/8" at widest. For more great silver items be sure to check out our website in its entirety.

L032
Argand Lamps Pair Clark Coit New York I’m proud to offer this super pair of matching argand lamps – made and signed with a label Clark and Coit New York. They are bronze and they are very classical. All the parts seem to be intact – I do not see any repairs. They are as I said in bronze strung with long prisms around the top on the prism ring which is removable. It has the reservoir knob underneath that which is intact. These beautiful bronze lamps sit on four bun feet. They have a nice sweep to the arm that holds the deeply engraved frosted and clear shade with a chimney underneath of that. Right now they are in a little bit of a dirty condition which is just the way we found them. It is incredible to look at something so early being so fresh and in such good condition. With a little cleaning I can see that the bronze would have a rich and wonderful patina. They measure 18 ½" at highest (top of chimney) x 10 ½" at widest x 7" at deepest.

L026
Rare Earthenware Chinese Export Oil Lamp signed Here is an absolutely wonderful and quite rare oil burning lamp. It is very unique in the fact that the lamp is actually Chinese export porcelain. It has really nice enameling and pierce work along the top. There is a signature of the maker on the exterior of the lamp and I hope you can see it in the photographs. It is on a brass or iron patinated base which is rather ornate. Inside the lamp base on the porcelain there is an attached paper label which reads – Manufactured by R Hollings & Co 547 Washington St. Boston. There is a brass font with a double burner. On the wick risers of the double duplex burner it reads – Whight & Butler Improved Duplex Burner Birmingham and on the second riser most of the same words with the word Patent. The burner is in fine working condition. It is complete with a chimney and as you can see an absolutely spectacular ball shade in clear and frosted glass in almost in a slightly complimenting oriental flare pattern that matches the little floral designs on the earthenware. So here you have a rear and wonderful lamp - I would suspect it would be a long time before someone saw a similar example. This lamp is still in its original oil burning state. The lamp is 21" at highest (top of chimney) x 6" at widest and at deepest.

Click for more detail...
L027
Antique Lamps Cornelius Girandole Suite This is an extremely rare 19th century early lighting three piece Girandole Suite. This set of mantel garniture consists of a three branch Daniel Boone or Leather-Stocking model with a flanking single socket Colonial Officer Model and a single socket Colonial Lady model. Made and signed, on all three pieces, by the famous lighting firm of Cornelius & Co of Philadelphia and patent dated (1843-1848) it’s hard to decipher. Breathtaking suite in 100% magnificent gilt brass. I found this sophisticated and rare girandole suite in the book – Nineteenth Century Lighting - Candle-powered Devices: 1783-1883 by H. Parrott Bacot on pages 174-176. There are numerous photographs of this same girandole along with a detailed description. I don’t know where to begin? So I’ll just dive in – "As of this writing researchers are hampered by there being no know surviving copy of and catalogue from the Cornelius firm dating earlier than circa 1876. What the company under its various corporate names called some models is unknown…the central fixture of this garniture features a seated male figure in buckskins in the company of a seated and standing Indian. A similar three-branch model is shown as plate 111 in the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s 1970 exhibit catalogue. The writers of the caption accompanying that illustration suggested the model name "Daniel Boone," based on costume since Daniel Boone had achieved international celebrity through the 1823 publication of Lord Byron’s poem, "Don Juan." James Fenimore Cooper published a series of five novels between 1823-1841, which dealt with the pioneers, and the Indians of New York State. The series became known as the Leather-Stocking Tales because the leather leg coverings worn by Natty Bumppo the hero of the novels". Natty was also refereed to by his Indian name which was Hawkeye. The series consisted of The Deerslayer, The Last of the Mohicans and The Pathfinder. "Logically the flanking figures which usually accompany a central girandole with this theme would be a pair of colonial officers or the colonial officer and his lady." As I previously mentioned this suite has the colonial officer and his lady flanking the central girandole which are mounted onto their original marble base. This garniture appears always to have been together because every thing matches. The matte lemon-gold finish with bright highlights is original and in excellent condition. The basically cylindrical candle cups with palmette bordered bobeches and the prism rings composed of a floral band with lovebird finials all typify the best of Cornelius firm’s work. The colonial officer and lady measure 16 5/8" at highest x 5 ¾"w x 3 ¼" deep. The central three branch girandole is 17 5/8" at highest x 18" at widest x 4" deep. This rare suite has never been polished and I can’t emphasize enough its pristine condition! This is a rare opportunity to acquire rare early American lighting that ties together American history and literature in a very elegant sophisticated way!

L028
Antique Rare Petite Oil Lamp with Birds Here is one of sweetest little oil lamps that I have ever laid eyes on – and I’m sure if you are looking at these pictures right now you totally agree with me. It is made of a white opalescent glass with a pale putty satiny color finish. It is all hand painted and hand enameled. The birds appear to be barn swallows – on the shade and on the base. On the reverse side of the base and the shade there is another scene of flowers and branches that are crawling over a trellises or arbor if you will. The burner is marked – The Trenton Jr. Patent applied for and the original chimney is also marked Trenton Jr. Germany. It has a repousse brass font and a gilded cast iron base. There is only a minute amount of gold gilding on the base. I don’t know for sure who made this lamp – when you first look at the lamp Wavecrest comes to mind. It is not marked and I have never had another one like it. My guess would be Wavecrest or New England Glass Co. It appears to me to be of a totally New England subject. It is basically in perfect condition except for a small hair line on the base on top of one sort of blown out section – you can’t see it but you can feel it. The design of the lamp is such that the hair line will not show up unless it is tilted in the light a certain way. The shade is fantastic as well – it looks a little bit dirty and since I don’t know how to clean it I will just leave it alone. This lamp is as precious as can be, and authentic as can be - dating from the 19th century. It measures 12 ¾" high to the top of the chimney and it has an approx. overall diameter of 7".

Click for more detail...
L029
Pair New England Glass Lamps Birds Here is a very exciting pair of wonderful lamps. They were originally, of course, vases. They are in a beautiful shade of pale yellow I would say banana yellow color over opaline glass. They are hand decorated with what I believe are New England barn swallows on a dogwood tree branch. I believe these vases were made by the Boston & Sandwich Glass Co of Sandwich, Massachusetts and then later assembled or made specifically for lamp bases. They are in very good condition and very tasteful. They deserve a more exciting shade then the ones they presently have. The condition is totally excellent – and what I like most about this pair of lamps is that the birds are facing each other (the birds on the left are looking at the birds on the right and visa versa.) So they were made as a matching pair. The wiring is very good I don’t believe it is necessary to rewire the lamps at the present time you just need as I mentioned earlier a glorious pair of shades. They date from the late 19th century and they measure 21 ¼" high with a base diameter of 5 ¾".

L030
Antique Lamps Bronze Griffins Pair Here is a hugely bold matching pair of classical bronze table lamps. The detail is very exciting and well defined as you can see. The urn shaped bodies are supported by two winged griffins. The double handled urns have a bronze chain draped across them and are engraved with bellflower design atop them. They sit on a black ebonized wooden base. The wiring is very good – you do not need to have these rewired. They deserve a fantastic lamp shade. The detail is exceptional and the surface patina is really rich and mellow. The winged griffins have great detail and everything is so well defined right down to their little claw feet. SIZE: 28" to top of harp. CONDITION: One base has crack to bottom stem of urn that does not affect the stability, otherwise very good to excellent.

L033
Victorian Oil Kerosene Wall Sconce Here is a super 19th century double bracket two font oil wall sconce. In original black casted iron and I might add the casting is rather ornate and nicely done. The simple pressed glass fonts have that wonderful tint of Amythest that’s that great old look that glass gets. It has the shade rings which I believe will take a gas shade or round ball shade with a 5" fitter or a little under. The two fonts are complete with the chimneys. The bracket that connects to the wall is also intact. The condition is very good with these lamps all you need to do is get a nice pair of matching shades for them. They measure 17" at highest x 5 ¾" at widest x 9" out from the wall.

LO52
Mid Century Italian Art Glass Lamp This is a truly dynamite art glass lamp. It has an opaque eggshell colored base with gold flecks in the glass and a thick layer of swirled clear over that. The final touch is an applied cane of glorious emerald green glass in a continuous swirl on the outer edge. The shade is custom made in the contrasting colors and textures of the lamp. I just had the lamp rewired with gold rayon cord. Overall the lamp measures 25" at highest – the shade measures 9 3/8"h x 12" in diameter and the lamp base itself is 7" in diameter. I can’t express enough how fabulous this lamp is – the pictures don’t do it justice. In is so elegant, vivid in color and glamorous! To-die-for!

Antique Railroad Lanterns pair Super nice matching pair of railroad lanterns. They are in very good condition. They have four large glass optics in blue and red. They are marked on the bottom Piper Montreal. The lamps appear to be in there original black paint and they have a handle so they can be hand carried and also they have the bracket on the back so they can be mounted on a post or a wall. I don’t know a lot about Railroad lanterns – it is not one of my specialties – I just happened to like these because they are in such good condition and I know they are highly collectible. They are marked on the top with the letters HLP and M. Again they are in very good condition – they are fairly big and heavy measuring 16" high (not including the handles) x 9 ½" wide at widest point.

LO54
Signed R Lalique Glass Lamp Virgin & Child This is one of the most fabulous Lalique pieces I have ever come across! As you can see it is of the Virgin Mary with Baby Jesus. This same piece can be found in the book Lalique by Jessica Hodge on page 140. It reads – "Here is an example of a rare…category in Lalique’s work, that of a religious subject. In the 1930’s he created a number of pieces, principally panels and pendants, with subjects drawn from Christian imagery. The commonest themes, as can be seen here, were the Crucifixion and the Virgin and Child, and many of the larger pieces in this category were subsequently converted into lamps. On the left is the vierge et l’Enfant table light, in clear and frosted glass, formed from a rectangular panel intaglio-molded with a figure of the Virgin holding the Child, and set within a chrome base. Stencil mark "R. Lalique France." 40 cm high. The original design was first created in 1937; relatively late in Lalique’s career and around the time he was working on his most major religious commission, the church of St. Matthew on the island of Jersey. The rigidly frontal pose of the virgin and the stylized folds of the garments worn by both figures reflect the influence of archaic Greek sculpture on Art Deco designs." It is in fabulous condition – signed on the lower right hand side in R. Lalique France. The base is black patinated bronze and it too along with the wiring which is fairly recent are also in very good condition. I think the pictures speak for themselves when it comes to this wonderful piece of art! In the stand it measures 15 ¼" high and the glass piece itself measures 13 3/8"h x 3 3/8"w x 1 5/8"deep.
